Can anyone become a good leader?

I was asked this question after a keynote speech. An exciting question - but the wrong one.

After all, what does it mean to lead well?
Is a CEO a good leader if he leads his team excellently but not himself?
Is a mother a good leader if she convinces her children to eat her broccoli?
Is a general a good leader?

Leadership has so many forms that in principle each can be a good leader - the decisive factors are Context and Order.

But the actual question was aimed at something else:
Is leadership innate or can it be learned?

And my answer is clear:
The skills that make for good leadership in a particular context can be trained. Just like with physical training, we all start with a different base. Some people go to the gym twice and have a six-pack. Others need six months.

But: Everyone can train and improve their (mental) muscles.
Leadership is not a talent. It is training.
